Jeffrey T. Green

Jeffrey is a founding partner of Green Lauerman Chartered PLLC together with his trusted colleague Colleen Lauerman. Jeffrey’s practice emphasizes counseling and zealous representation of clients in difficult situations. He has dedicated his entire career to achieving success for private clients. He has extensive trial work experience, including first-chair criminal trial practice. He has supervised and led innumerable grand jury and internal investigations, and successfully challenged a wide variety of agency actions, including suspension and debarment decisions.
Jeffrey also represents clients in appellate matters. He has presented argument in seven cases before the U.S. Supreme Court including, most recently, Fischer v. United States in 2024. He is the only current practitioner at the Court to have argued two cases in one day as a private litigant and he has mentored and coached scores of first-time advocates before the Court. Jeffrey has also presented argument before numerous federal circuit courts of appeals, including en banc panels. His enthusiasm for appellate law stems from his clerkship with the Hon. Jerry E. Smith on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Jeffrey is also a founding director of the Northwestern Supreme Court Clinic together with his former partner Carter G. Phillips. The Clinic’s first Term was 2006 and it has operated continuously since during both the fall and spring semesters.
Prior to establishing his own boutique firm in 2024, Jeffrey was a partner with Sidley Austin's Supreme Court and Appellate Group for 27 years, having joined the firm in 1989 following his clerkship. Jeffrey also served as the Global Leader of Sidley’s Pro Bono Practice for over 10 years from 2013 to 2023.
Jeffrey serves as the Amicus Committee Co-Chair for the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He graduated from the University of California Davis Law School where he was the Managing Editor of the Law Review. He holds a Master’s Degree in Philosophy from the University of Texas Austin and a Bachelor’s Degree in the same discipline from Cornell University.
